Fathom Events - your feedback needed!

I am genuinely curious if anyone has ever gone to one these NCM Fathom Events in theaters before. Ever since 2005, I have seen promos for the company's screenings before the trailers of every film I have ever watched at the cinema. Sometimes the events are not of my taste, such as the operas and plays, but most times they look pretty awesome. At one point in time, they ran a KISS concert, a performance with David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, a big screening of Scarface, boxing matches, and even MMA/UFC fights. And these suckers were live, hosted in selected theaters in selected markets much in the vain of old school closed circuit television. According to the company website, attendees can sing, run around, dance, and go crazy without the restrictions of watching a real film even their events are hosted in a theater.

Now I am not truly sure if any of their events have been held in my area, but I have been seeing promos for their special engagements for the last 6 years and from the looks of their website, they seem to be adding even more to their yearly schedule. I can understand the loyal KISS Army flocking in droves to see the band during one of these live events and even I tried to find out (yet failed) to see Gilmour's showing a couple years back, but I wonder what type of draw Fathom can do with plays and operas? Are they really rolling it in?

This is purely a feedback post, which means I would greatly appreciate your collective input. If you have ever attended a NCM Fathom Event, I would love to hear about your experience, good-bad-or otherwise. Even if you haven't attended one and just have some thoughts on NCM Fathom Events or the company, I'd like to hear them as well.

This is actually the first I have ever heard of this but it sounds damn good. The Gilmour show would for sure draw me in. The concept sounds great (next best thing to being there type of thing). I am going to have to see if they offer any shows here in the Dallas - Ft. Worth area. Stay tuned...I'll let ya know what I find. BTW...I guess it is obvious I have no real feedback for your post :)

Thanks for the post, Man-Cave! I’m Samuel Threadgill, the PR Manager at NCM Fathom Events. Yes, audiences are definitely rolling in to see these events (with many theaters across the country often selling out). Nearly two million people attended Fathom events in 2010. Fathom’s Met Opera Live in HD series began in December `06 on just 98 screens nationwide. Today the series is now in its sixth season and can be seen in more than 630 theaters – that’s how popular the opera series has become! Since `02, Fathom has been delivering special events to movie theaters including opera, Broadway, sports, comedy, concerts, and other original programming – all containing extra exclusive bonus content, such as behind-the-scenes footage, backstage interviews, etc. I hope you checkout one of our upcoming events. Let us know what you think! http://www.facebook.com/FathomEvents?sk=wall

There is going to be a Chemical Brothers show at the cinema across the street in February...I am going to make it and see what the party is.

I took my son to see "The Sleeping Beauty" by the Belshoi (sp?) Ballet Company out of Moscow just before Thanksgiving and it was AMAZING!

Seeing it on a big screen and the access that provides was worth having to go an hour away to see it.

I have attended several Fathom events: simulcast Hollywood premieres; exclusive Garth Brooks concert; "live" theatre; exclusive documentaries; concerts; marching band competitions.... Fathom Events has brought me to shows, venues & events I would not otherwise have been able to attend!

I live in a small town and love the Fathom events. I've seen opera's, ballets, and plays that I wouldn't otherwise have been able to see. Just last week I took my 6 year old nephew and 10 year old niece to see The Nutcracker, live from Lincoln Center. Those tickets were $45.00. If I had taken them to NYC to see it the cost would have been closer to $1500 and that's only if I had been able to fly in and out and not stayed over. It's not exactly like being there, but it is the next best thing.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! I figured that Fathom must be a hit since I always see their promos before trailers, but I am glad to see that people took their time to leave some examples of the types of events they went to see here. Thanks again for satisfying my curiosity.

I have gone to several (David Gilmour - 2 different events!, RiffTrax LIVE - 2 different events, Times Talks Live: LOST, Ladies and Gentlemen...The Rolling Stones) well worth it - great sound & picture. Always nice to see a performance on the big screen & the one night deal makes it an EVENT. Highly recommended!
