The Social Network - this is how you cut a trailer

This past weekend, I saw the trailer for The Social Network at the cinema for the second time in three weeks. The first time I saw this trailer, I was captivated by the choir cover of Radiohead's Creep, which seemed to perfectly fit into the film's message. The second time I saw this trailer, I felt that again the audio really drove the video and left me thinking that I saw one of the greatest trailer creations ever. And I'm not all gung ho about seeing the film, I'm strictly discussing the trailer.

Again, I am not doing back flips to see the film or anything, but the trailer is so well executed that I needed to post it for those who might not have seen it yet. Excellent choice of song, perfect section of the selected song used, good build up with little dialogue, and pinpoint editing. The film might suck, but the trailer gets an A grade from me. It would have gotten an A+ if it weren't for Justin Timberlake. What the hell is he doing in this film anyway? JT needs to bring sexy back or something and stay on his side of the fence. Let someone else earn some money and have some fame, curly.

I agree JT was an odd choice, but overall it looks awesome. Though it sort of reminds me of the trailer to 21.

Thanks for sharing. Had not seen it. If I can unbury myself from prop building I will definately give it a watch. Thanks so much!

Agreed. I am a sucker for trailers and this one got me, hook, line, sinker.

Copyboy - I'm just tired of seeing his face everywhere. He will always be a boy band guy and I'm surprised his original fan base has not moved on. I'm not on board with the whole "he's not that bad of an actor" bandwagon. Lots of people aren't bd actors so he should take his zillions and let someone else have a turn.

Frog Queen - Hey Chris! Yeah Halloween is coming 'round so you're super busy. Can't wait to see what's in store for you this year.

Erika - it's a damn fine trailer that is pulling me in to eventually caving and watching it. But I will almost def wait for DVD.

Brilliant. It almost makes me want to see it based on the trailer alone. Also, that chick from Parks & Rec doesn't hurt too.

Cheese - I have never watched Parks and Rec, but I think I know who you are talking about. And I admit that I think Jesse is a cool actor and is going to kill in this role.

I caught this trailer last week and agree, it has the great dramatic build up to what could be just another nerd-gets-girl-after-doing-the-impossible teen romantic comedy. I didn't realize what I was hearing though...Chorus version of Creep. Just wait til Glee catches wind of this. I can see it now...Smells Like Teen Spirit, the duet!

You got it right, what is Timberlake doing there!? He causes a little "wardrobe malfunction" a couple years back at a Half Time show, it goes to his head and now he thinks he belongs any damn where! Get a life Justin!

That music makes that trailor pull you in, for sure! I saw an interview with the real 'facebook' guy ... so I'm interested and will see it on 'dvd' later. :-)

Thanks for sharing with us!

JT just needs to sit there and look pretty.

I loved the trailer as well, but am not quite sure if the movie will suck. If JT takes his shirt off, then I might pay my $20 (yes, it's like 16.50 a ticket here in L.A., bah!).

JT is actually quite good actor, he was excellent in EDISON and ALPHA DOG, and is always very thorough in his music production, videos and everything else his does. More young celebs should be like him. The fact that he is handsome doesn't mean he doesn't have a lovely talent as well.

I'll give you that one, out on the film but all in on the trailer. Song choice is almost always key in cases like this, and here, they have a winner!

That was awesome! And I will watch the movie...looks intriguing.

Geof said...

Dorn - oh no I implore Glee to stay away from this song. Please!

Margaret - yeah he does not need to be an actor. Let someone else have some $. He's loaded.

Coreen/Velvet - my friend is finishing up the book this is based on and is begging me to read it. Says it is so good. So good that he wants to see the film.

Yoli - $20? Dies that come with a foot massage? Perhaps a small drink?

Dez - haha that's cool you like him. I'm just not a fan. Someone else could use that money for that role more than him. But I won't hate if you like him. :)

Carl - that version of Creep is so f'n awesome!!

Chuck - the more I watch this, the more I am wanting to see it now.
